When someone asks you the dirtiest place in your house, your mind probably first goes to the toilet right? Well, what if I tell you that it is not always true too?
See, in our everyday lives, we come across several bacteria, germs and dirt. In fact, a lot of the objects we use everyday are covered with these germs, even more than your toilet. So the toilet isn’t always the dirtiest thing in the house. It is in fact one of the cleanest as we are always using chemicals to try to keep it clean. Here is a list of 7 things that are actually dirtier than your toilet.
- Carpets and Rugs
See we human shed about 1.5 million skin cells every hour. And these shed skin cells go into our rugs and carpets to act as food for the bacteria in them. Scientifically speaking, carpets are actually about 4,000 times dirtier than the toilet seat.
- Television Remote Controls
When you are at home, you always handle the television remote control. This actually makes it in contention for the dirtiest object in the home – ranking far above the bathroom. How? Because you use the remote control always. When eating, when sick, when cleaning and covered in dirt, after getting in from a sweaty run, etc. The remote control is always getting into our hands with loads of germs getting deposited on it.
- Door Handles
This is another thing everyone is always touching, regardless of where your hand has just been. It is usually a haven for viruses and a lot of bacteria.
- Mobile Phones
Just like the remote controls – even worse sef, everyone touches their phones regardless of where they are or what they are doing. Mobile phones have been found to be at least 10 times dirtier than the average toilet seat.
- Ice
Ice is one of the dirtiest things around us. A research done in the U.S revealed that 70% of the ice served in fast foods contained more bacteria than toilet water. Shocking right? This is due to the fact that ice machines and places for storing ice are not usually cleaned nearly enough. And unclean surfaces + regular stagnant water = bacteria paradise.
- Office Desk
Yes, most office desk spaces are usually messy. And messy is the surname for most disease causing microorganisms and germs. Even when the desk isn’t messy, just the dirt from the computer, different files, cell phones, books, etc. can make the desk contain 4 times more germs than a toilet.
- Money
Money is always exchanging hands. Just take a look at the money with you right now. Do you know where it has been since it left the minting department of the CBN? I’m sure you don’t. One thing I’m sure of however is that it is teeming with germs. So maybe you should wash your hands after handling money yeah?
