Hollywood actress Lupita Nyong’o since her emergence on the scene has proved her stance as a legitimate superstar. The actress has earned the love of everyone with not just her skills as an actress but with her persona as well. Born in Mexico and raised in Kenya, Lupita is indeed a real one. Before she became the famous movie star she is today, Lupita directed a movie before she ever starred in one?
We already mentioned that Lupita was born in Mexico City in 1983, to a former Minister for Medical Services father, who was a visiting lecturer in political science. Her parents who are both Kenyan later took their baby girl back home to Kenya, where she was raised in Nairobi. The actress at the age of 16 left Kenya for Mexico to learn Spanish.
Inspired with the work actress Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah did in Color Purple which left a huge impression on her, Lupita at the age of 14 began finding her way in into acting. She made her acting debut playing Juliet in a local professional production of “Romeo and Juliet” in Nairobi. She continued with more acting jobs before finally leaving for America to attend college.

Lupita later returned to Kenya and starred in a TV series called “Shuga”. She made her directorial debut in 2009 with the documentary IN MY GENES. In2013, she hit the limelight with her role in Steve McQueen’s 12 YEARS A SLAVE. Lupita played the role of a young slave woman named Patsey. Her incredible performance earned her an Academy Award® for Best Supporting Actress.
Her role in the movie 12 YEARS A SLAVE, was a major breakthrough for her as she went on to star in many more hit movies to include playing a CGI character in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. The actress after acting in movies where attention was placed on her look, she decided she wanted to act in movies where her looks wouldn’t matter. She acted the part of space pirate Maz Kanata in STAR WARS, then went on to voice the part of a wolf named Raksha in Disney’s remake of THE JUNGLE BOOK.
Not long after this, Lupita again made her appearance with her role as Nakia in Marvel’s BLACK PANTHER. The movie has since gone on to earn her several awards and nominations alongside her co-stars.
She has since not slowed down as she has more movies in the works that will be released soon. Lupita Nyong’O is indeed a star and we love her.
