Social media has erupted over a recent tweet by a Nigerian man who is of the belief that university education is not all that needed.
According to the man;
I don’t think everyone should go to university. I think apprenticeships should be more recognized with certificates so that those who complete such programs can go on to study for Masters or other further education degrees.
Everyone shouldn’t be struggling to pass JAMB. Just complete your high school, get your WASSCE or NECO certificate and enrol in an apprenticeship programme. If there’s a curriculum, maybe they can study some GES courses.
His tweet has since gotten tongues wagging as while some supported his views others disagreed.

Even polytechnics are fighting to become Universities…who's talking of technical schools and colleges? Everything is misplaced…when the purpose of a thing isn't known, abuse they say is inevitable

Let me tell you what I think, I think the Igbo apprenticeship system should be a thing, it should be encouraged. Instead of going to school, learn a trade and become someone in life.

You people sound funny. Apprenticeship should be on novel aspects of life not necessarily trade. Industries should be provided by the private sector, while power and infrastructure provided by Government. U will see a functioning system.

Its not a bad opinion, we all put so much emphasis on selling and buying that we forget that the best way to achieve a good economy is to increase internal productivity across all sectors in a manner that gives everyone a spot in the labour market.

If need be…
It's high time we started being more practical yk
Enough of this every day theory— » Amaka « (@_sayhitocharie_) May 13, 2019
Before this can hold, apprenticeship must first be re-branded

It was a wonderful idea until you ruined it with Master's degree and further education degrees..
— PUR1§T™ (@just_charless) May 14, 2019
Exactly. Steve Jobs D great, dropped out of Reed College, Mark Zuck of Facebook dropped out of Harvard, those who can't make it to University, but can add value to Society, can take some certificate courses on Public Speaking & Business Plan writing/etc, not Masters degree

There is so much catch in this statement however I don’t think that’s a good idea.

I think the practice scope is rather centered as compared to the spread theoretical traditional university curriculum. Do we even write enough reports in these centers /org ? If so, can they prepare us for masters thesis ? Do we have enough qualified supervisors ?
