With the European winter (January) transfer window for 2019 finally closed, let’s take a look at the top 5 most expensive deals completed across Europe last month.

  1. Frenkie de Jong – $85.5m

This highly rated youngster was courted by many high profile clubs including Manchester City and Paris Saint German (PSG) but he eventually signed the dotted lines for Spanish giants, Barcelona. The deal was worth $85.5 and could rise up to a whopping $98m through add-ons.

He will move to the club from July 1.

  1. Christian Pulisic – $73m

Pulisic became the most expensive American soccer player in history after he signed a deal worth $73m with former England champions, Chelsea. The 20-year old winger will remain with Borussia Dortmund till the end of the season before linking up with his new teammates at Chelsea on July 1st.

  1. Leonardo Paredes – $54m

Chelsea target, Leonardo Paredes signed a contract with French Champions, PSG in a deal rumoured to be worth around $54m. The talented midfielder signed a 4.5 year deal for PSG, dashing the hopes of Chelsea who hoped to use him as a replacement for the departed Cesc Fabregas.

  1. Krzysztof Piatek – $40m

Former Genoa striker Krzysztop Piatek completed a high profile move to AC Milan worth just over $40m. The striker’s move was made possible after Juventus Player, Gonzalo Higuain cut short his loan and completed a new loan move to Chelsea.

  1. Benjamin Pavard – $40m

World Cup winning defender Benjamin Pavard penned a $40m deal with German giants, Bayern Munich last month. The deal has given the defender a massive uplift from bottom dwellers, Stuttgart to the current league champions. He signed a five year deal and will join up with Bayern in the summer.
