One thing that everyone should learn is the importance of dressing for their body type. Whatever your body type is, there is how to dress according to it.
Just because an article of clothing fits a particular person does not mean it will look good on you. You need to begin to accept your body for what it is and wear clothes that actually work. This will help you build more confidence and appreciate your body for what it truly is.
- Don’t look at the number on the tag: The number on your piece of clothing is just a number. If you need to go a “size,” up, just do it. If the clothing is too tight or too short, it won’t be complimentary. And you know the best part about tags? No one can see it. Stop focusing on a specific size, each brand and style is different and it is so much better to have the item fit you than try and fit your body into a size that doesn’t work.
-
When in doubt, get it altered: Did you buy a particular dress because you love it but it just doesn’t look fabulous? Take it to a tailor to have perfected for your body type. You can buy dresses in a size or two bigger. A couple of tucks here and there and an inch off the hem too can make it practically a new dress.
-
Figure out what you want to highlight: Magazines would mostly tell you what you want to “hide” but Instead, focus on what you want to HIGHLIGHT. It could be your long legs or your hourglass figure or your neckline. Whatever part of your body, highlight it instead of focusing on the parts you need to hide.
-
Wear the right undergarments: You should wear the right undergarments both in size, shape, and colour. Getting a properly fitted bra makes all the difference in your style. What you wear underneath your outfit can actually make or break it and a good rule of thumb: Black bras/panties under black clothes; nude under white.
