Believe it or not, the way you start your day determines how you end it. Our morning habits are extremely important and can either boost our productivity for the rest of the day or hinder it. From checking your phone to not making your bed, here are some morning habits that can ruin your day.
Checking your phone
The first thing most people do when they wake up is checking what’s new on social media. While this is something a lot of people engage in, looking through social media first thing in the morning can make you stressed and anxious for the rest of the day. Social media is full of sensational news that can affect your mood negatively and put you in a bad mental state. This also applies to checking emails first thing after you wake up. To overcome this habit, you can leave your phone in a place where you won’t be able to easily access it right after you wake up.
Not making the bed
Making the bed right after waking up is one of those simple habits that hardly take any time yet a lot of people fail to do it. Not only is making your bed a good habit, it also sets you up for success. When you make your bed every morning, you form a healthy habit that will help you to be more disciplined and deliberate. It’s also a good way to keep your space neat and in turn spur yourself to be more productive.
Eating only carbohydrates for breakfast
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it provides your body with many health benefits and helps boost your mood for the day. This is why it is important to eat right kinds of foods in the mornings. While it may be easy to make some foods high in carbohydrates such as pasta or noodles, these foods will only provide you with energy for a short time and cause you to feel tired once you blood sugar crashes. Instead, opt for a protein-rich breakfast. This will keep you fuller and provide you with long-lasting energy for productivity throughout the day.
Leaving the curtains closed
One of the best things you can do when you wake up is exposing yourself to some sunlight. To do this, you should make sure that you open your curtains to allow some sunlight into your room. Research shows that natural sunlight releases cortisol in the body which helps you concentrate and gives you a sound mind throughout the day.
If you start the day in darkness, your body’s inner clock can get confused and think it’s still night time. This may make you feel sluggish for the rest of the day instead of alert. So, try to open the curtains whenever you wake up.
