Whatever problems arise in a romantic relationship, it’s important to face them together as a couple. If an aspect of the relationship stops working, don’t simply ignore it, but instead address it with your partner. Things change, so respond to them together as they do.

There really is no relationship without its own hurdles. Everyone in a relationship keeps working at it until it begins to look like what they envisioned and even then, they do not stop, they keep going. Love is when you look at your bad times through the eyes of the good times you had and choosing to keep the said good times in your heart and letting it guide you.

Here are a few nuggets of wisdom that will help you fix whatever seems to be broken in your relationship.

  1. Communicate with your partner: The first sign of things going wrong is when the communication link is missing. Sometimes it is just downright broken but no one wants to get past their ego to fix it. Paying attention to your partner is key, maintaining eye contact when having a discussion and taking time to listen are ways in fixing your communication problem
  2. Respect your Partner: This is a subsection of communicating with your partner. Allowing your partner to finish his or her sentence without interrupting, knowing that your partner has an opinion and it might differ from yours while being receptive to it is a way to show respect to your partner.
  3. Trusting each other: A broken relationship means that there is trust lacking between both parties. One person is hurting, thereby becoming angry and sometimes bordering on being vengeful. When one person thinks the other is unworthy of their love, the temperature of trust between them begins to drop. One way to build back trust is to start communicating.
  4. Show concern and compassion: Of course, this is hard to do when the love of your life continually hurts you with their words and actions but showing compassion should not diminish because of that. Concern and Compassion are what makes us human.  If you are not able to use soothing words or gestures, especially if being blamed at the moment, you can show consideration for your partner’s distress by use of body language or facial expression.
  5. Remember times that made you laugh: Sometimes, al you find yourselves doing is interrupting, invalidating, and yelling at one another and there is no referee in this professional emotional boxing match. You can step back or down and find something that made you laugh. If you have had a great relationship in the past, this should not be hard for you to come by. It will help to diffuse the tension even if it is just for a moment. Even if the fight resumes, it will be evident that what they are talking about is not all of who you are and you can get through it, all you need is to communicate.

It is obviously evident from these 5 tips that communication is a major key to fixing a relationship. Talk about it. I hope they help.
