PEDIATRICS: How Well Did You Know This Profession?

Pediatrics is a profession that aimed at treating babies and kids up to the age of 17.

Many kids have the same pediatrician through these years, up until they get to the age of 18 and seek another doctor. Once they have changed to an adult physician, they will take their medical file with them so that their doctor has their entire medical history on hand at any time. This profession is so broad and the average doctor has many responsibilities to always fulfill.

A pediatrician will usually be contacted right after a baby has been born or a few months before the birth. Certain parents seek a doctor for their baby in preparation for the big day while other parents simply bring their baby in when they need to go for a checkup. Whether a parent chooses a specific pediatrician or not is up to them and whether they feel more comfortable contacting one doctor instead of many.

Pediatricians will usually perform a variety of tasks which include wellness checks, immunizations, circumcisions, prescribing medications and inspecting newborns. Their tasks also include informing parents about proper child care and how to care for sick children.

Doctors and nurses who are going to be working with children are aware that their patients are not always very comfortable in medical settings and they might be fearful of procedures and instruments that they don’t understand. It’s up to the doctors and nurses to make their patients feel as comfortable as possible. This profession is as much about medicine as it is about interacting with children in the appropriate manner.

Pediatrics is a wide field that includes many different practice areas. The field of pediatrics can be divided into specializations such as surgery, oncology, neonatal care and even nursing. Medical students who are interested in pediatrics choose early on which area they want to specialize in

This profession takes a lot of dedication and commitment to complete the training associated with entering into this field. Pediatricians are doctors and a medical degree is only the first step that they need to take. Although it might be a difficult road ahead this is a profession that allows doctors and nurses to impact the lives of their small patients and many will watch their patients grow up throughout the years. Not only is this a challenging and difficult profession but it can be one of the most rewarding professions in the world.
