In the wake of the latest xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other immigrants in South Africa, many Nigerians have taken to social media to express their anger about these attacks from The Rainbow Nation.
In a series of tweets, Nigeria rapper Ycee condemned the attacks on Nigerians and also called out South African rapper AKA for a controversial tweet he posted some months back when Nigeria defeated South Africa in the just concluded Nations Cup.

I don’t rate South African men at this point … and I’m not trying to create any form of animosity between us and them (that they don’t already feel against us)
It is really sad that In 2019 Xenophobia is what we are still facing and discussing as a problem— ZAHEER! (@iam_YCee) September 3, 2019
There is this subtle dislike that a lot of them (If not all) feel towards Nigerians and no matter how hard they try to hide it .. it eventually jumps out – like when AKA had a full childish grown man tantrum when they lost to Nigeria in the nations cup

Worst part of this thing is South Africans (or any other foreign nationals) will never feel unsafe in Nigeria.
We even treat foreigners better than we treat ourselves, which I believe needs to change. The rest of the world doesn’t respect us Cos we don’t respect ourselves— ZAHEER! (@iam_YCee) September 3, 2019
Our government needs to do a whole lot better and treat this matter with urgency, the same urgency we used to fight apartheid with them in the past

It is very much the same thing https://t.co/V6UXRakxi4

Bro if you refuse to see the underlying implications of what you tweeted
There’s really no need for the back and forth
As public figures we should always recognize the strength our platforms carry! I have no agenda or narrative to push
I’m just deeply hurt and that’s that! https://t.co/E0kKdA3fVt— ZAHEER! (@iam_YCee) September 3, 2019
It didn’t take long for AKA to respond to Ycee
Are you talking about this guy? https://t.co/yL80gu5abY pic.twitter.com/pga6APk5ky

Ycee isn’t saying don’t rant over losing a match.
Don’t involve other factors as you know ish is sensitive and people remember things based on who you be.— Young-Azukiwe (@IamKemwer) September 3, 2019

Another Nigerian went viral after she stormed shoprite for a peaceful protest

More Nigerians claimed solidarity against the xenophobic attacks
I just smashed my DSTV console where I am now, 2 more to go. This is how show my solidarity. Dang DSTV, Shoprite and all South Aficans. I am berserk but I can't kill anybody and won't, the way I can express my vehement disapproval is by cutting#EnoughIsEnough#SayNoToXenophobia pic.twitter.com/8p9sLMvUHA

Felt like going to Shoprite this week, but in response to the outbreak of #Xenophobia in South Africa, I won't be going. I will also avoid all South African owned businesses for a week, at least.
Fortunately, I am not an MTN subscriber.
A message has to be sent, somehow.

I hate Glo. The network is messed up . But right now, I am a Nigerian. I am destroying my Mtn sim and buying Glo. While still at it, anybody that sees me in a Shoprite store again from today should stone me. As for DSTV, I will find an alternative. Useless ungrateful bunch.

Fellow Nigerians,
We have TSTV
We have GLO
We have EbeanoThey can't be killing us yet generating huge income off Nigerians. I think it's time we boycott Dstv, MTN and Shoprite.

People are saying we should keep pampering DSTV and Shoprite and Multichoice because Nigerians are working there..
Lol, China didn’t think twice to ban Apple, same with Huawei in America etc. people are dying and you’re preaching pacifism🤦🏾♀️— Prince Chibuikem ⚓ (@DiceyPrince_) September 3, 2019
I have an idea on how we can stop this #XenophobicAttack .
Let's enter ShopRite in group
Take anything we like
And go out without paying
If security talk
We go rush Dem. pic.twitter.com/LGJeZIzcLX

Other Nigerians think this is not the answer
DSTV
MTN
Shoprite
Are all South African businesses in Nigeria .Yes, but shutting them down will put a lot of Nigerians out of work .
In a country with over 23 percent Unemployment, that’s not the way to go.
Nigerians are still the ones working in the aforementioned places.— Gentle_Ezenwanyi (@Queen_Minic) September 3, 2019
Boycott Shoprite, MTN and DSTV but remember who makes up a large quota of their work force here, our brothers and sisters. I understand the emotions, but think of the number of people you'd be throwing into unemployment.

Presently at Shoprite, jakande lekki-epe Expressway … It's getting dirty 🙆😭😭 #SAShutdown pic.twitter.com/SfP9YMGhdv
— localMAN♻🏁 (@arc_tobi) September 3, 2019
the thing is, DSTV/SHOPRITE/MTN are not own by black south Africans, they are own by white people living in south africa, i don't think, taking any actions against these companies will solve anything
it's just crazy seeing south Africans taking law into their hands#xenophobic
— funshographix (@funshographix) September 2, 2019
Myopic thinking, 80% of those working at ShopRite and MTN in Nigeria are Nigerians.
— Abiodun tunde (@Spigery) September 2, 2019
So bcos South Africans are burning foreigners shops, you were suggesting Nigerians should burn down MTN, shoprite and DSTV offices in Nigeria? Tell me who will be rendered jobless? Who do u think work in those offices in Nigeria?
— Daddy Lewa (@TheInfamous__) September 2, 2019
Boycotting DSTV, MTN, and Shoprite is not the solution really. The fact is that these businesses contribute a significant quota in reducing Nigeria's unemployment ratio. But I understand our sentiments sha.
