One of the saddest occasions is to lose a loved one whether to illness or accident. The bereaved is grieving, and many times they are unable to prepare a repast for after the funeral.
One of the saddest occasions is to lose a loved one whether to illness or accident. The bereaved is grieving, and many times they are unable to prepare a repast for after the funeral. So you are asked to do this favor, or you kindly volunteered to do this small thing for your friend or family.
The first to decide is if they want it at their home. If yes then plan a buffet style service. This is easier to feed everyone as they will be able to take what they need and not feel as though they have over eaten. Plan a simple menu that will go down well with basically all in attendance. Finger foods are always best and easy to manage. Barbecued wings, tiny meatballs with toothpicks on platters, fish or meat sticks, tiny sandwiches, vegetable platters, and maybe potato salad, can be a part of the spread. Provide small plates so the guests do not over load and have a hard time with lots of food.
They can always go back for seconds. The dessert placed at another side of the room so it is easily accessed and the hot and cold beverages do the same. This is to have free flow of people and not have too long a line at any station. Have individual serving utensils so your guests will feel comfortable with helping themselves as this will enable you to have time to circulate and ensure all guests are okay.
We have covered the food. Now we consider decorations. Flowers are always welcome at any event. This creates an atmosphere of warmth and comfort.
There is also the smell of freshly cut and arranged flowers to make a room come alive. If you need extra chairs for the amount of people you have catered for, then rent some. This can be for just a few hours. Some rental services will do it by the hour or have you keep them until the next day. Make sure you have extra bathroom items available as you will have heavy traffic in the home.
The repast is a success, but you have cleaning up to do. You can ask for help to get this done. You do not want to leave all this work on your friend or family member after such a hectic and sorrowful day. It is a complete package, and should you hire a professional caterer they would have made cleaning as part of their cost.
