Here Are Some Things You Didn’t Know About Hollywood Legend Robert De Niro

Robert De Niro is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors to come out from Nollywood. He performance in Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, and The Godfather II set him apart a movie icon. Today many actors around the world look up to him as an inspiration.

1.  Robert De Niro was born  in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York.  Both of his parents, Virginia (Admiral) and Robert De Niro Sr. we’re artists who met in painting class.  They divorced when De Niro’s father revealed he was gay. As a result, he was raised in his mother’s household. However, his dad father lived close by so he was able to see him fro, time to time.

2. De Niro has won many awards for his exceptional works including Best Supporting for his role alongside Al Pacino as Vito Corleone in The Godfather Part II. He also won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1980 for his portrayal of Make Lambeth in Raging Bull. He went to earn nomiminions for movies like Taxi Driver (1976) and Cape Fear.

3. De Niro is known to be an ultra-private person. He rarely gives interviews and only provides few details about his personal life.

4. He was the second actor to win Oscar for playing Vito Corleone. De Niro and the legendary Marlon Brando are the only actors to ever win an Oscar for portraying the same character.

5. De Niro once held the World Record for Most Weight Gained for a movie. He gained over 60 pounds for his role on Raging Bull (1980).

6. De Niro had a tumultuous relationship with his ex wife, Grace High tower,  who he married 1997. The couple had a so much,  Elliot De Niro, in 1998. However, things took a turn for the worst when De Niro filed for divorce in 1999. The two later got back together and renew St heir vows in 2004 but separated again in 2018.

7. Asides from, acting, De Niro also co-owns the Rubican restaurant In san Francisco.

8. De Niro describes his father as one of his greatest influences. In am interview, he spoke about keeping his father’s legacy. “Yeah, of course, the book and even the documentary, which was initially just for the family, or anybody who was interested. It’s for my kids, my grandkids, great grandkids and so on, just so they would know who my father was, their grandfather or great grandfather was, and what a wonderful artist he was. He was a real dedicated artist, a real honest, he was prolific, anybody who you talk to who is knowledgeable about art and the art scene would not disagree with that. That’s all,” he said. 

9. In 2003, De Niro was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He underwent a successful surgery and has been cancer free ever since.

10 De Niro is known to be one of the most dedicated actors in Hollywood. His assistant on Raging Bull revealed that he never broke character on set.
