Facts About Sola Sobowale Everyone Should Know

She needs little or no introduction in the Nigerian movie world.

Nollywood veteran actress Sola Sobowale is a favourite for millions of Nigerians in and across the globe.

Since her emergence on the scene, Aunty Sola as he is fondly called as gone on to script, co-script, direct and produce several Nigerian films.Not just that, she has also featured in several top Nigerian movies that have snagged several awards.

Here are facts about her every fan should know.

  1. She was born on 26th December 1965. Sola Sobowale hails from Ondo state.

2. She dumped education to pursue her acting career.

I left Nollywood to take care of my children; children are not asked to be born so when you have them, you must take care of them. I couldn’t do two things at a time, meaning I couldn’t face my career and carry out my responsibility as a mother. So, I had to sacrifice one for the other. I have got five children so I had to take care of them. I left Nigeria 15 years ago, took them with me and gave them the best of education. There are now graduates and gainfully employed. Now that they are older I am back to doing what I know how to do best which is acting. The truth is if I am not acting I won’t be fulfilled. I am back.

3. Her parents were not in support of her acting career at first.

I was the apple of their eyes, but they weren’t in support. My father was a retired principal, while my mother was a former headmistress. My dad actually wanted me to become a teacher, while my mum wanted me to become a nurse. In a way, I’m still doing those things they wanted, albeit in a different way. When you watch my movies and smile, that’s a form of therapy because you’re relaxed watching me. I also teach through my movies, highlighting the difference between right and wrong. In all, I give God the glory that before they passed on, they accepted me and my profession. There was a time I was to receive awards for acting at three different places, and my parents went to represent me at those events as well as receive the awards on my behalf.

4. The actress is married to Oludotun Sobowale. She and her husband are blessed with five children with twins amongst them. Her twin girls Taiwo Sobowale and Kehinde Sobowale studied Public Relations and Accounting and Advertising respectively at Northampton University.

5. She took a break from acting to focus on her family.
