Rapper Kanye West has become Forbes’ highest-paid hip-hop act for the first time in his career after Forbes released it’s 2019 list on Thursday, September 19.
The list which was summed from the pre-tax income from June 2018 through June of this year, saw Kanye West’s Yeezy brand expected to hit $1.5 billion in sales this year making Kanye number one on the list with $150 million with Jay-Z coming in 2nd with $81 million.
Kanye in an interview with Forbes talked about the process in making his Yeezy sneakers saying;
“You start with a sketch, start with a vintage reference. It can start with a previous shoe that we created that we’re making a newer version of, or feelings of films and experiences that I grew up with. We have a team of incredible designers. We’ll take the entire design team to Japan; we’ll take the entire design team to the zone and talk about where we’d like to take these ideas.”
He continued saying the Yeezy“is the Lamborghini of shoes.”
“There’s so many prototypes that you go into for whatever you get. They’re miniature vehicles; we work on shoes like you’d work on a car.“
The rapper also noted that ”there’s no bad shoes.”

“Any of these shoes that didn’t make it . . . 20 years from now, you’ll look and that shoe will be worth [a lot] to the numbers guy,” he said. “What’s a Picasso sketch worth now? What’s a Warhol sketch worth?”
Forbes also shared a mail they got from Kanye about his creative process on IG WHICH READS THUS;
During the process of creating the Celeb100 cover story featuring Kanye West, Forbes’ director of photography, Robyn Selman, asked West if he had any original art that he would like to include. This is what he hand-mailed, postmarked from Tokyo. It is West’s visual interpretation of his creative process, showing a sketch of his family – his wife, Kim Kardashian West, and their four children (North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm), with “All That Matters” written above. He sent an initial version, then sent a revised one. In the revised version (above), he made sure to include Sushi, the family dog. As a family man, West cites many influences for his creativity, most notably the Bible and his religious beliefs.
