“Never give up”
“It’s not over until it’s over”
I’m sure you have heard people say the above phrases and they no doubt sound extra cliché. However, there is truth in these phrases.
Life is filled with stages, it is never a bed of roses. There will be ups and downs, maybe a lot of downs, but don’t lose hope. People have been there before you and made it successfully. Even some of our favorite stars and celebrities that have become household names have been through serious down times before. But they never gave up, that’s why we have them to look up to today.
So to kick start our week on an inspirational note, I’ve put together a list of 4 celebrities ties who made it against all odds.
- Oprah Winfrey
I’m sure you have heard of the richest black woman in the world, Oprah Winfrey, and her famous TV show. Now let me tell you what you don’t know about this incredible woman.
Oprah had a tough life growing up. She was a victim of child molestation by her cousin, uncle and family friend. She got pregnant at 14, gave birth and then lost the child two weeks after birth. And she was a victim of racial abuse and body shaming. But she didn’t allow all these things bring her down. She pushed on, and finish high school, got a full college scholarship and the rest is history.
- Stephen King
Believe it or not, famous writer, Stephen King once lived with his wife in a trailer while working multiple jobs. The award winning fiction writer was once so poor, he had to borrow clothes to wear for his wedding. He was rejected so many times by publishing companies that he decided not to stop. Get that! He continued pushing and going against all the odds till he got his first major publishing deal.
- J.K Rowling
British novelist, Joanne Rowling also known as J.K Rowling, makes this list. The author of best-selling novel and movie, Harry Potter also didn’t have a smooth life. She is the perfect embodiment of a celebrity who made it against all odds. In 1994, she was so broke, she had to live on government aid, and she couldn’t even afford a computer to type her first Harry Potter novel. But she didn’t give up. She typed all 900,000 words of the book with a typewriter several times to send to different publishers. And eventually, she made it.
- Tyler Perry
Award winning actor, Tyler Perry didn’t have an easy ride to the top either. At 22, he tried to commit suicide for the second time, the first came in his teenage years. Growing up, he had a pretty rough time, getting molested sexually, physically, and then getting kicked out of high school. However, he didn’t let all those things put him down. He started a show which miserably failed at first, but he continued working hard until he hit major success on the big screen.
So the next time you feel like everything isn’t working right, don’t give up. Take a cue from these guys and remember
“It’s not over until it’s over”.
