Saharareporters is an online news source that gathers reports on corruption, human rights abuse, political misconduct, and other vices in Nigeria. Based in New York City, the Sahara Reporters agency was founded by Omoyele Sowore.
Omoyele Sowore’s passion for the media began in the days of military rule in Nigeria. Seeing how actively involved the media was in criticizing the then ruling government inspired him to pursue a career in journalism. With this desire to expose the ills in society, Sowore began his fiery activism in the University of Lagos where he led the Student Union Government.
He studied Geography and Plannings while engaging in activities to cub cultism in the University. As expected, his role as SUG president earned him some enemies. It is alleged that he survived a cultist attack which made him leave Nigeria to the United States for proper medical care.

Sahara Reporters would later transcend to become one of the biggest news sources in Nigeria. It got its big break in 2009 when it became the first news source to identify and publish the photo of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab – a Nigerian man who at the age of 23 was convicted of attempting to blow-up Northwest Airline Flight 253 on Christmas Day in 2009 – also known as the ‘’Underwear Bomber’’. Since then Sahara Reporters has gained great achievement in the Journalism sphere by becoming a respectable news Source.
