German champions, Bayern Munich would no doubt be looking forward to the second leg match of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 stage against Liverpool next week.
The German giants would be savouring the chance of facing Liverpool in front of home fans as they have a good history about facing English opposition at their home stadium, Allainz Arena.

Bayern met Liverpool in the Cup Winner’s Cup – the then equivalent of UEFA Super Cup, in a second leg match at their home stadium. They ran out 3 – 1 winners.

The following season, Bayern Munich met Tottenham again in the knockout stages of a European competition, this time in the European Cup first round knockout stages. They won the first leg match in Germany by a lone goal.

Next was Nottengham Forest. The German giants faced Nottthingham Forest in the first leg of their quarterfinal match in the UEFA Cup (now UEFA Europa Cup) in Germany and came away wth a 2-1 victory.
- UEFA Champions League 2000/01
The quarterfinal stage of the 2000/01 UCL season saw Bayern Munich beat English giants, Manchester United 2-1 at home for the second leg game.
- UEFA Champons League 2004/05
The season following Arsenal’s invisible season saw them meet Bayern Munich in the first leg round of 16 matches in Germany. Arsenal were beaten by the German champions by 3 goals to 1.
- UEFA Champions League 2004/05
That same season, Bayern Munich faced another English opposition, Chelsea in the quarterfinal round of the UCL. After falling to a 4-3 loss at the Stanford Bridge, they defeated Chelsea 3-2 in front of home fans. However, they were knocked out with an aggregate score of 6-5.
- UEFA Champions League 2009/10
The next time they faced English opposition at home, Bayern beat Manchester United 2-1 in the first leg of their quarterfinal matchup.
- UEFA Champions League 2016/17
Bayern Munich’s last game against English opposition at home was something to savor as they thrashed Arsenal by 5-1 in the first leg of their Round of 16 knockout stage in the 2016/17 UCL Season. They went on to record an equal 5-1 victory at the Emirate Stadium and qualified on a aggregate score of 10-2.
