Many of us are focused on the idea of dating a particular ‘type’ of person and it could range from the Tall, Dark and Handsome man or the hourglass-like woman to the artistic guy or the intellectual woman.
We need to understand that whatever ‘type’ you feel biased towards, it is not ideal to date a specific ‘type’ of person only and here are 7 reasons why.

- Give your feelings a chance: Allow your feelings a chance and it may surprise you on your own newfound appreciation and romantic inclination for a different kind of partner. You may even be amazed at what you find when you aren’t looking for a single ‘type’ or following a shallow checklist.
- The element of surprise: Dating the same type of partner must be boring. It means that you more often than not know their likely actions and behaviors. Dating a different kind of person will help bring the element of surprise back into your life.
- The same kind of social circle: Having the tendency for a particular ‘type’ means you will be dating the same type of people until you settle for one. Dating someone new and different, on the contrary, could and would expose you to a new world of people that you weren’t in on. I’m not saying you should be intimate with each new person you meet, but being able to choose is an opportunity you deserve to have.
- Self-discovery: If you want to be with a person with certain fundamental qualities(which does not mean a particular ‘type’) then start being that person. Once you start imitating your ideal partner, instilling those ideal qualities into your own life increases the chances of you being the kind of person you want to attract.
- Diversity is healthy: Conformity is said to be the killer of creativity. According to William Cowper, “Variety is the very spice of life, that gives it all its flavour.” Date someone of a different ‘type’, it may even teach you to approach life differently.
- It limits the dating pool: You need to broaden our horizons, explore, acknowledge other people, increase your chances of meeting other people. Not restricting the dating pool is a very good thing to do.
- Judging a book by its cover: Wanting to date a particular type of person only is rather judgmental. Going only after a particular look or type is rather superficial and shallow, to say the least. It shows patterns that are rather unhealthy and ruinous.
