This week saw the conclusion of all first leg games in the Round of 16 knockout stage o this year’s UEFA Champions League competition.

With a few clubs tasting victory and other suffering defeat, the games were exciting for the fans and neutrals. For fans of clubs like Manchester united, Schalke and Juventus, whose clubs were defeated, there is respite for them.

The UEFA Champions League has seen some exciting second leg comebacks by clubs who were in losing positions from their first leg games. I have put together my top 6 amazing second leg comebacks in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages. Check them out:

  1. Deportivo VS AC Milan 2003/04 Season

After crumbling to a 4-1 defeat in the quarterfinal first leg game against AC Milan, Spanish team, Deportivo incredibly defeated the Italian giants 4-0 in the second leg game, qualifying on an aggregate score line of 5-4.

  1. Chelsea VS Napoli 2011/12 Season

The first leg Round of 16 games during the 2011/12 UCL saw English giants, Chelsea lose 3-1 away to Napoli. However, the “Blues” turned the game on its head when they condemned the Italian team to a 4-1 defeat at home, qualifying on a 5-4 aggregate score line. Chelse went on to win the trophy that season.

  1. Barcelona Vs AC Milan 2012/13 Season

Spanish team, Barcelona lost their first leg game in the Round of 16 against AC Milan 2-0. But they went on to claim a 4-0 victory over the Italian team in their second leg game and qualified on a 4-2 aggregate.

  1. Real Madrid Vs Wolfsburg 2015/16 Season

After Real Madrid slumped to a shocking 2-0 away defeat to German opposition, Wolfsburg, they turned the game around with a 3-0 win in the second leg game. They eventually went on to win the completion.

  1. Barcelona Vs Paris Saint Germain 2016/17 Season

The most amazing of these comebacks came in the 2016/17 season. Barcelona turned around a huge 4-0 loss against PSG in the Round of 16 stage of this competiton. They astonishingly scored six goals in the return leg at home to win the game 6-1 and qualify on a 6-5 aggregate score line.

  1. Roma Vs Barcelona 2017/18 Season

The Spanish giants were on the receiving end this time. After Roma had slumped to a 4-1 quarterfinal first leg defeat against Barcelona, the Italian team rallied themselves and shut out Barcelona to win 3-0 in the second leg game. Roma qualified as a result of the away goal rule after the tie had an aggregate score of 4-4.
