The Johnny crooner snagged a spot on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Africa list, for her contribution to the African music scene and this talented singer has not stopped showing off just how good she is.

Her Background 

The singer’s name s Yemi Eberechi Alade making it known that she comes from a multi-ethnic background. The singer, born in 1989, in Abia State, Nigeria, to James Alade, a Police Commissioner and Helen Uzoma. Yemi hails from Ondo State and is the fifth of seven children in her family. She has a degree in Geography from the University of Lagos.

She won a talent show in 2009

This amazing singer first had a stint in the limelight after she won the Peak Talent Show back in 2009. Not long after she released her first single ‘Fimisile’ which did not do so well until 2013 when she released Johnny, which has remained her biggest hit till date.

She is a feminist

In her Fader Magazine feature back in 2016, Alde made it known that she is a feminist which somehow is relayed in her records. The singer in an interview with NAN a few years ago said;“I believe that there is that struggle for the females but I don’t believe that because of that struggle we should be sleeping at our posts. I believe that every challenge and opportunity is for you to overcome; a challenge is not to stop you,” she continued.

“So when you see the challenge, you rise above it; so any woman that is seeing this challenge and sitting at home and crossing her legs, she has decided to fail.

“No woman is living on an island with only females; if being a feminist means I strongly believe that the girl child can do just as well as the male child, then call me a feminist. But if that’s not it, then I’m not that.”

She has songs in French

Yemi proved just how versatile she is when she dropped the French version of her hit songs Johnny and Kissing. She effortlessly garnered fans in the Francophone market further confirming her stance as the queen she is.

Awards

Yemi Alade since hitting limelight has won two MTV Africa Music Awards. She won Best Female artiste in 2015 and 2016 respectively
