5 Things Learned From The Barcelona vs Liverpool Match

After a thrilling UEFA Champions League match between Liverpool and FC Barcelona at Camp Nou, we learned 5 things from the match.

FC Barcelona defeated Liverpool at Camp Nou on Wednesday in the Champions League, it was a thrilling match with an unfair result from the Reds.

There were many details worthy of appreciation before next Tuesday’s return leg.

5.- Virgil van Dijk had a reality check.

Even we were excited to see the confrontation between Virgil van Dijk and all the FC Barcelona front line, but the Dutch defender had a terrible night.

English football got a reality check through the Liverpool player who is currently considered the best in the country.

There is a minor chance for him to redeem himself next week, but chances are that he won’t have enough time to get a convincing victory against the powerful Catalan club.

Liverpool might end up empty-handed this season after all, so much for the hopes everybody had on this squad.

4.- Jurgen Klopp keeps having really bad luck.

Ever since he started coaching top-level squads in European football at Borussia Dortmund, Jurgen Klopp has been incredibly unlucky when it comes to winning trophies.

Perhaps the Bundesliga titles he won weren’t as difficult as the Premier League, and what else can we say about how complicated the Champions League is for any other club?

Klopp was eager to prove himself in front of the whole world but he keeps suffering the shorter end of the stick in situations like today.

The German manager has no other choice but to keep trying and hope for the best outcome next Tuesday.

3.- Liverpool played better football than Barcelona.

We all know that goals are the ones that eventually decide matches but Liverpool really played well at Camp Nou, especially during the second half.

The Reds were supposed to score at least one goal during this match and they really deserved it.

However, FC Barcelona was the squad that completed the homework and they didn’t disappoint.

The Reds had several chances but they were either unlucky or they met with our number 3 things we learned from this match.

2.- Marc-Andre ter Stegen is life insurance for Barcelona.

We can’t talk about FC Barcelona’s outstanding performance from last night without mentioning Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the German goalkeeper is just as valuable as Messi.

Throughout the whole 90 minutes, the Germany international had at least four saves that determined the final outcome of this first leg.

Ter Stegen has proved that he is one of the main players for Barcelona this season in all the competitions.

Messi should at least buy him a beer right after the match because he is the one who stopped the efforts of Mo Salah and company.

1.- This is Lionel Messi’s year.

This FC Barcelona squad has been defined by the brilliance of Lionel Messi once again, there are very few adjectives left to describe what he is doing.

The whole Camp Nou Stadium fell under his spell and wanted to cheer his name after each goal he scored.

But we have to stop for a second and appreciate the artistic way in which he scored his 600th career-goal.

Free kicks like the one he got today, are within reach of only a handful of players in football history.

Leo can finally say that he scored against the Premier League’s Top 6 after this brace against Liverpool.

The Reds were the only pending victim he had out of the biggest clubs in English football.
