5 Nigerian Artists That Broke Into The Movie Industry

Being entertainers will at some point require that you try your hands on other industries in the same entertainment sector and this a few Nigerian artistes have done effortlessly.

Today we will be talking about some Nigerian musicians who did a good job breaking into the Nollywood industry.

Chidinma

This award-winning landed her acting debut by snagging a lead in the Kunle Afolayan-directed movie, The Bridge. The movie tells the story of Stella (Chidinma) who faces so much issues over her decision to elope with her Yoruba prince due to them being from different tribes in the country.

The singer in an IG post about the movie thanked the director for the opportunity to play her role. “Thank you for the opportunity to work with Greats like Demola Adedoyin, Binta Ayo Mogaji, Zack Orji, Kunle Afolayan, Tina Mba, Adebayo Salami, Lere Paimo, Wole Olowomojuore, Lanre Hassan, Jimoh Aliu, and Mama Ray-Eyiwumi”.

Banky W

Multi-award winning singer Bankole Wellington shocked many when he made an effortless switch to the movie industry.

Banky snagged a role in the hit movie The Wedding Party and its sequel and has continued to land lead roles in other movies. 

On switching to Nollywood, Banky in an interview said; Anybody that has paid attention to my music videos would know that I have had this flirtatious love affair with the movie-making business because most of my videos are short films.

I tend to tell stories with my music videos because I have always been a storyteller.

In fact, from my younger days, I always considered myself as a writer before I saw myself as a singer or an actor. In that sense, watching myself on the screen was not much of a surprise because I have been flirting with it for a long time.

Falz

This multi-talented Nigerian entertainer is one, many always look out for be it in movies or in music.

Falz proved just how good he can be in the movie world when he bagged a AMVCA (for his role as Sege in Jenifa’s Diaries).

The rapper has gone on to create and hold down his spot in the acting world, producing the documentary, Falz Experience, The Movie and not so long ago, snagged a role in a television series produced by BLK Prime.

Ikechukwu

This ace rapper first caught people’s attention with his role in Gbomo Gbomo Express, where he played the role of an artiste whose label dropped him. Not topping there, Ikechukwu landed a role in The Wedding Party and its sequel.

Seyi Shay and Vector

These two brilliant artistes both snagged the lead role in the movie Lara And The Beat. They o course came correct with their acting skill and we are hoping to see them in more movies.
