Uzo Aduba
She gained prominence with her role as Suzzane ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren on the TV show Orange is the New Black. Uzo who is studied classical voice at Boston University. and was born to Nigerian parents have, since gone on to feature in movies like Pearly Gates, How to Live Like a Lady and others.
On why she refused to change her name from Uzo, the actress in an interview said;
“I never considered it as an adult. I went through that struggle when I was a kid. When I was in elementary school the constant mispronunciation and they straight up laughing at your name.
I came home one day from school and I said to my mum can you call me ‘Zoe’. She stopped cooking and said “Why?” If they can learn to say Tchaikovsky and Dostoyevsky, then they can learn to say Uzoamaka.
And that was the only time I had a conversation about changing my name.”
Adepero Oduye
The actress is one of seven children to Nigerian parents. She was born in Brooklyn, New York and hit the limelight with her role as ALike in Pariah. Oduye went to feature in the movies 12 years a slave, Steel Magnolias, etc.
Megalyn Echikunwoke
Megalyn was born to an Igbo Nigerian father and an English, Irish and German mother. She was born in Spokane, Washington. She has featured in so many TV shows to include The 4400, CSI Miami, House of Lies, Great Lengths, Arrow, etc.
Judi Shekoni
This British actress was born to a Nigerian father. Judi is a model and a TV presenter She has acted in TV shows including The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Eastenders, Garfield 2, Heroes Re-born, etc.
