The international music scene has been blessed with talented acts who many are unaware are actually Nigerians.
Here are 5 international acts with Nigerian roots.

Wale
This ace rapper born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin is a well-celebrated act in the US who churns out beautiful records steadily. Wale since joining the music industry has worked with the likes of Lady Gaga, Wiz Khalifa and Pharrell Williams and has snagged two BET awards. In an interview the Pretty Girls crooner said;
“‘Cause that’s my blood, I’m 100% Nigerian.”
On how his Nigerian background has helped shape his music, the rapper said; I’ve always experimented with afro beats and stuff like that. I’ve always been in tune with what’s going on in Nigeria. I’ve worked with a lot of Nigerian artists.
NAS
Born Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, Nas is in fact the son of Jazz musician, Olu Dara blues. The ace rapper began his musical career in 1991 and has since gone on to release hits after hits. He has also snagged a couple of awards.
Jidenna
Following the release of his 2015 record, “Classic Man”, Jidenna has continued to be a favorite in the Nigerian music indsutry. This US-based Nigerian is also known for his classy fashion style which refelects his AFrican side. Born Jidenna Theodore Mobisson, the singer is signed to Janelle Monae’s Wondaland Records label. Jidenna was born in Wisconsin to a Nigerian father and a white mother.
On how African music has helped with his sound, Jidenna said in an interview;
Oh, it’s profound. Even if the production doesn’t feel African, the vocal delivery — singing through your nose. Specifically, High-life music from Nigeria. That was the first music I ever heard as a child. So singing through my nose is something I do often, and that’s directly rooted in my heritage.
At large, I feel like we’re entering into a time when hip-hop music in the states, and pop and hip-life and all types of genres across the African continent are emerging, in general. I think they’ll be even more influential as I continue.
Tinnie Tempah
Born Chukwuemeka Patrick Okogwu, UK rapper Tinie Tempah, was born to Nigerian parents from Ibusa, Delta State, grew up in London. Tinnie Tempah is in fact one of UK’s hottest rappers and has collaborated with other international acts to include Rihanna, Rita Ora, Eric Turner, J Cole and Snoop Dogg. He has also gone on to win numerous awards for his songs.
Sade Adu
Born Folashade Helen Adu, this veteran singer was born in Ibadan but grew up in England. Sade since her emergence on the music scene has put up great records and is the first Nigerian to win a Grammy award.
