There are so many things that we come across in our everyday lives. For some of these everyday things we know their uses while for some others, we just take them like that – without really knowing their functions. We even come across many of these things whose uses are not really known several times in a day. If you are wondering what I’m talking about, here are 5 everyday things you probably didn’t know the use for.
- The Spike on a Tube’s Cap
If you have noticed, most tubed products have a spike on their cover cap. Well, turns out those spikes are not merely for decoration. They have a purpose. The spikes are there because most tubes have protective seals covering their hole openings. The spike on the cap is to help you break that protective covering and open the tube. Instead of looking for a needle or a pen to open the tube.
- The Hole Beside an iPhone’s Back Camera
At first, this thing used to puzzle me a lot. Why is there always a hole beside the back camera of iPhones – well except maybe the latest versions. Some people think it may be a reset button but a little research online debunked that belief. The hole is really a microphone to pick up the sounds made when recording a video with the back camera.
- The Hole in a Ruler
I’m sure you have seen/used rulers with holes at the top, mostly at the 3-inch line. Well, the hole is not there so you can put a pencil and twirl the ruler round – helicopter blade style. The hole is actually there for you to hang your ruler anywhere close to you.
- The Arrow Beside The Fuel Gauge in Vehicles
When you look at the fuel gauge in a vehicle, you will observe that there is an arrow right beside the fuel pump icon. Most drivers do not know why this arrow is there. Well, the arrow has been placed there to help you know what side your gas tank is on. Just in case you are pulling into a filling station and you momentarily forget what side your tank is on, you only have to look at your fuel gauge. The arrow will show you if it’s on the left side or the right side.
- The Bump on the “F” and “J” Keys of your System Keyboard
I’m sure you must have noticed that there is a slight bump on the “F” and “J” keys on your computer keyboard. If you haven’t noticed, check it now. Anyways, these bumps are to help typists feel and place their fingers on the home keys without looking at the keyboard.
So there you have it, 5 things you most likely did not know the use for. Is there any other thing you know it’s use but it isn’t popular knowledge? Do feel free to share with us in the comment section below.
