5 Delicious Meals You Can Prepare From Maize

Maize is one of the essential cereals in the world. In Nigeria, maize production is viral in the 36 states, and it is enjoyed by different ethnic group in different ways. Maize is a seasonal food with plenty of nutritional content. Here are five meals you can prepare from it:

Pap
Arguably the most common breakfast in Nigeria, pap is a meal many Nigerians consume from the cradle to the grave. Popularly known as Ogi or Akamu, this food is simple and does not take more than 5 minutes to prepare but getting pap out of the corn is where the hard work lies. If you want to make your pap, what you need to do is soak maize grains in cold water for 3 to 4 days. Rinse it severally with clean water. After rinsing it, then you grind it to a smooth paste, tie it to a sack bag to extract water from it, and your Pap is ready. If you want to make a meal of it, take out your desired amount and prepare. Pap is simple to prepare but the process of getting it quite strenuous so it is advisable to buy the raw one from your local kiosk to save yourself from all the hassle.

Corn Pudding
Corn pudding also is known as Igbo-oka it is a health delicacy mostly eaten by the Igbo tribe. The process of preparing corn pudding is like moi-moi. The only difference is the main ingredients which are beans and corn. To a make corn pudding, blend some fresh corn and combine with ingredients such as crayfish, groundnut oil, pepper, etc. After blending, package it in foil, aluminum plates, but if you want to get that distinct taste, it is best you wrap it in Uma leaves. Afterward, steam it and enjoy.

Elekute
Elekute is a quick and delicious snack mostly consumed in southwestern Nigeria. It is enjoyed by both the young and the old. This meal is out of maize that is dried, roasted and ground into a powdery form. The powdery content is then mixed with grounded sugar and eaten with coconut or roasted groundnut.

Tuwo Masara
Tuwo Masara is a corn flour swallow that is popular in Kaduna, Zamfara and other Northern states in Nigeria. The meal is easy to prepare and highly nutritious. Tuwo Masara is the perfect substitute for semo, starch, or eba. It is more enjoyable when served hot, and it make sense with any soup.

Adalu
If you are bored with the taste of beans porridge, Adalu is the ideal replacement. The first time I tasted this delicious meal was way back in 2010 when I visited a friend in Onitsha. The meal is trendy in the eastern part of Nigeria and some part of the Delta State. Adalu is a cooked combination of beans and sweet corn. It is very healthy; rich in protein and carbohydrate.
