Most people would say ‘NO’ to answer my question above, but that is not always the case especially with football coaches. Over the years, we have seen several instances of football team coaches getting sacked and then rehired by one particular club or country. Yesterday, we saw the most recent of this type of ‘rehiring’ when Spanish club, Real Madrid announced the reappointment of former coach, Zinedine Zidane. The Madrid club’s executives have once again decided to put their faith in the French man to lead them back to glory.
However, Zidane is not the only coach to get rehired by a club in the top 5 European leagues. Here is a list of my top 6 managers who got rehired after previously leaving the same club.
- Claudio Ranieri

Last week Friday, Italian club, AS Roma announced the reappointment of former Leicester City manager, Claudio Ranieri as their coach. Ranieri had previously been at the helm of affairs in the Italian club from 2009 – 2011. However, a poor run of results in the latter year made him ‘resign’ from his post as manager.

Czech national, Zdenek Zeman is a man known for his many ‘reappointments’. He has a long list of club that have fired him, and then rehired him since he started his managerial career. Clubs like Foggia, Leece, AS Roma, Cagliari and most recently, Pescara have seen this man have at least two different managerial spells with them.

The self acclaimed ‘Special one’, Jose Mourinho also makes this list. The Portuguese had a successful first spell at English club, Chelsea from 2004-2007 before getting fired mid-season. However, he was rehired by the club and guided them to another League title before getting chopped out of the club yet again.
- Guiseppe Sannino

Sannino was reinstated as the manager of Palermo FC in Italy a few weeks after he was fired from that same position.
