So many people battle with mental health disorders and some of those people also include a couple of our favourite celebrities.
OCD is defined by the National Institute of Mental Health defines as a ”chronic and long-lasting disorder, in which a person has battled with uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts and behaviours.”
Here are 5 Celebrities Who Have Struggled with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
David Beckham has on a couple of occasions opened up about his struggle with OCD. In an interview with the Independent, the world-renowned footballer said;
“I’ve got this obsessive-compulsive disorder where I have to have everything in a straight line or everything has to be in pairs.
English singer and songwriter Katy Perry is also one of the many celebrities who struggle OCD. Perry has been open about her struggles and has admitted to being something of a germaphobe adding that she practices “crazy cleaning rituals in her house.”
In an interview with Z100 radio Host, the singer said; “I’m so OCD. I always want to put things in alphabetical order. I’m also a little Howard Hughes about germs.”
Multi-award winning singer and songwriter Justin Timberlake has also been open about his struggles with OCD. The singer has also revealed that his battle with OCD oftentimes affects various aspects of his daily life.
Timberlake has laso reealed that asides OCD, he also deals with attention-deficit disorder (ADD), which is a condition that makes it difficult to focus.
In an interview, the pop star stated that;
“I have OCD mixed with ADDYou try living with that. It’s complicated.”
The Romeo + Juliet to Titanic, Catch Me if You Can and the Wolf of Wall Street actor also suffers from OCD. Leo who played a famous sufferer of OCD, in a movie DiCaprio reconnected with his childhood obsession to play the role and in interview he spoke about it saying: “I remember as a child, stepping on cracks on the way to school and having to walk back a block and step on that same crack or that gum stain. Let’s just say it took me a while to get to set, having to step on tons of things. “I would come to [Martin Scorsese] with an intricate list of all of Howard’s eccentricities, like how he would eat his peas, what he would and wouldn’t do, how he’d use a napkin. How he translated that cinematically was amazing. I would say, “This is what I know I need to do for my OCD. This is the way it works, otherwise, it equals death for him.” And then, he would shoot it.”
The actress has confessed to struggling with OCD. In an interview, Theron was quoted saying; “I actually have a serious problem — obsessive-compulsive disorder. I have a problem with cabinets being messy and people just shoving things in and closing the door. I will lie in bed and not be able to sleep because I’ll say to myself: ‘I think I saw something in that cabinet that just shouldn’t be there.”
