Thursday Throwback Review- Starting off the throwbacks with one of my personal favorites, Good Will Hunting (1997) Official Score 99/100 Quick Hits: Matt Damon plays Will Hunting, a janitor at MIT with a genius-level IQ and a photographic memory. He gets arrested, but a Professor gets Will some leniency with the judge, provided Will works with him and gets treatment from therapist Sean Maguire (Robin Williams). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Favorite Parts: The dialogue is what makes this movie. First time screen writers, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck absolutely earned their Oscar for best screenplay in this one. The late Robin Williams gives a heartwarming performance, earning best supporting actor. Absolutely love the dynamic between Will and Sean. They create some of the most iconic scenes in cinematic history. Nitpicks: Some of the behavior and jokes haven’t aged too well (homophobic jokes, objectification of women), and Skylar’s female character is relatively underdeveloped. The outcome of the movie is a little predictable. Final Take: While the outcome of the movie is relatively predictable, the individual moments are what create the magic of this film and keep me coming back to it.
