Nigerian singer Mayorkun since his emergence some three years ago has continued to churn out hits that we all just can not get enough of.
Here are 10 things you probably did not know about the “ELEKO” crooner.
1 Mayorkun was born Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel on March 24th. He is from Osun state.
I have had like 10 different names but this one came to be in my 300 level in the university. We were watching a Japanese animation and I noticed they called a boy there Kun. I later got to know Kun means a boy. My name is Mayowa but most people call me Mayor so I added the Kun to it.
2 He had his primary and secondary education at Living- Spring Montessori and Hi-Grade College respectively before bagging a degree in accounting from the University of Lagos.
3 Mayorkun’s dad is a professional musician, Actor and Director, while his mum is popular Yoruba actress Toyin Adewale.
4 Mayorkun dumped his banking job to pursue his career in Music.
5 Mayorkun started his music journey officially in 2013 with a song titled GBO.
6.The singer got his big break after Davido took notice of his videos on social media.

My salary in the bank was so poor so I decided to get another job. Meanwhile, I have recorded a song using my cousin’s piano in late December, 2015 and I shared it on social media late January 2016 and Davido saw it on February 1. Then he followed me and sent me a direct message via Twitter. He later followed me on Instagram and asked if I can do more than playing the keyboard. I then sent him some of the songs I have done. He picked on one that I recorded while still in school and told me ‘guy I am signing you on’
7 Mayorkun signed a deal with Davido’s label on March 3rd 2016.
8 He hit the limelight in 2016 with his song “Eleko”. The song hit over 1 Million views on YouTube in just 9 days and went on to top several charts.
9. He went on his first international tour on August 2, 2016, with his label mate.
10 Since hitting the limelight, Mayorkun has gone on to ag several nominations and awards. In 2016, he won the Nigerian Teen Choice Award for Choice New Song of the Year, the City People Entertainment Award for Most Promising Act of the Year and The Headies ‘Rookie of the Year’ award.
