Nigerian singer Harrysong made news a few hours ago after he took to social media to share the photo of a place he once lived in, in Port-Harcourt. Sharing the picture, the singer wrote;

‘the lady by my left is POLINA ,the one by my right is mama Aboy || 11 years ago I lived in this compound, number 16 Awkwuzu street diobu mile 1. With my father and step mum ,life was hell my people, through the tough and rough times,Harrykoko became your Harrysong today,POLINA will always stand for me,and support me no matter what she’ll always tap my back and shout Harrykoko Harrykoko the world star’.

He added that, ‘I decided to visit them today wen I heard about the hard times and how they ve been struggling with a lot ..did the little I could. it’s amazing how we can now laugh about everything today. As a kingmaker,am just the chief servant. Stay true to your self my people. I stay grateful. I support people, not parties’.

Here are 10 things you probably did not know about Harrysong.

His real name is Harrison Tare Okiri. He was born in Delta state to Ijaw parents.
He dropped out of school after the passing of his mum due to the strained relationship between him and his step mother.
He started his music career at the age of 11 in his church
In 2007, he moved to Lagos where he was the lead singer of a band that entertained at a nightclub. He met Kcee at this nightclub
In 2009, he signed with QuestionMark Entertainment but eventually left following some disagreements between both parties.
He released his debut album Testify in 2012
He joined Five Star Music in 2014.
He has battled depression and has been quite vocal about it. He shared a post on Instagram saying ”Don’t cry wen I die, celebrate, put up a kingmaker concert, empower more youths,… I have Lived… I have Done my bit, carry on in grace… TEKERO❤ I LOVE YOU ALL.” This brief message as it is has left a number of people expressing concerns for his well being.
He launched his own imprint Alterplate. O launching his label, Harrysong said in an interview; This has been the picture from way back. I’ve seen this way back, it’s been written way back, so coming to see it today has been a dream; it’s the movement, the future. I’ve been dreaming of a platform such as this, to get a music platform that is as sure as this to be able define the sound and also bring up new artistes.”
He has won several awards to include the Sun Awards 2015, for the Creative Person Of The Year
