Born Bukola Elemide on 17 September 1982 in Paris, France to Nigerian parents, Asa since her emergence on the scene has continued to churn out great music. The singer/songwriter was raised in a small town near Lagos, Nigeria and has three brothers.

2.Asa was raised in a small town near Lagos, Nigeria and has three brothers. The name “Asa” means hawk in Yoruba.
3. Her musical inspirations include Femi Kuti, D’Angelo, Lauryn Hill, Angelique Kidjo, Raphael Saadiq, Bob Marley and Erykah Badu.
4. The singer met her manager and friend, Janet in 2004. Janet later introduced Asa to Cobhams Emmanuel Asuquo, who eventually became her producer and musical partner.
5. She released“Eya Adaba” and “Jailer” in 2009 and both songs went on to to several music and radio charts in Nigeria.
6. Asa signed a record deal with Naïve Records where she released her debut album “Asa”. The album went on to win the prestigious French Constantin Award in 2008.
7. Asa ha snagged several awards to include the 2008 Prix Constantin award and the 2011 French Music Awards Victoires de la Musique nomination for Female Artist of the Year category.
8. Her second album “Beautiful Imperfection” was released in 2010. The song “Be My Man” was included in that album and went on to top charts as well.
9. She lost her virginity at the age of 28.
“I never wanted to date any artiste. On the day I lost my virginity, I called my manger, Janet to tell her and she was surprised that I was a very late starter. I also called my mum and she didn’t have any advice, she said, “it will be painful at first’, and I was there wondering what she was saying.
“I am ashamed to say I lost my virginity at 28, so don’t clap for me. Perhaps one of the reasons why I lost my virginity that late was because I was shy and somewhere else where I was too focused on my career that I didn’t even think about having sex.”
10. In 2014, reports had it that before the release of the album “Bed of Stone”, Asa had already sold over 400 000 albums.
