You probably know the character Arya Stark in the record-breaking TV show Game of Thrones. She is one of the most beloved and unconventional characters on the show. However, you might not know that Maisie Williams, the actress who played the role, has some similarities with Arya Stark.
In this post, we’ll be looking at 15 interesting facts about the Maisie Williams:
1. Though Maisie Williams is an established actress thanks to her role in Game of Thrones, she originally didn’t want to be an actor. In her younger years, she attended Bath Dance College and developed a love for dancing. In an interview with the Guardian, she said, “If I could have had a career in dancing, I would have left acting in a second.”
2. She was born Margaret Constance Williams. However, she adopted the nickname Maisie, after a character in the comicstrip The Perishers.
3. Williams almost did not go for her Game of Thrones audition. She wasn’t really interested in acting and instead wanted to embark on a school trip to a pig farm. But for her agent who insisted she went, we probably won’t know Maisie Williams today!
4. Due to the casting demands of GOT, she had to drop out of school at age 14. She also never sat for her GSCE exams, though she was taught by a tutor during while on the set og GOT.
5. Asides TV, Williams has starred in a couple of independent films such as Heatstroke, Gold, and Up on the Roof.
6. She is a pretty good dancer. While at Bath Dance College, she gained proficiency in musical theatre, ballet, tap, street and freestyle.

7. Like her character in Game of Thrones, WIlliams is quite outspoken. In a 2014 interview with the Guardian, she criticised former Harry Potter star Emma Watson for being a “first-world feminist”.
Watson had just given a speech on feminism to the UN and Williams was asked her opinion on the actress’s speech. She said: “A lot of what Emma Watson spoke about, I just think, ‘that doesn’t bother me’”. she explained further “I know things aren’t perfect for women in the UK and in America, but there are women in the rest of the world who have it far worse.”
8. She is a proud animals rights activists and has embarked on several campaigns against practices that put animals in danger.
9. Her and her co-star Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark in GOT) are besties in real life. She was Turner’s Maid of honour at her wedding and they both have matching tattoos.
10. Williams had to learn how to do things with her left-hand for her role in GOT. According to her, she stared practicing once her mother informed her that Arya is left-handed in the book A Song of Ice and Fire.
