10 Classic Nigerian Songs Everyone Should Have on Their Playlist

There are songs and there are songs and to be honest these 10 classic songs picked, are songs every lover of music should have on their playlist.

1. 2face – African Queen (2004)

African Queen was of of the singer’s debut solo album, Face 2 Face, and its a song that aided 2face’s transformation from just a singer to the singe5. 15 years later, this song remains everyone’s favourite.

2. Onyeka Onwenu – You and I (1986)

The iconic singer had many in their feelings back in the 80’S with this song off her One Love album. Known as the elegant stallion, Onyeka Onwenu, till date still has many of us in our feelings with this evergreen song

3. Tosin Martins – Olomi (2006)

Olomi is off of his Happy Day album, the single, and in no time the song became wedding DJs favourite. Tosin did an excellent job with this song which was sang in both Yoruba and English.

4. Sunny Nneji – Oruka (2007)

A song that celebrates marital bliss, yes please. Sunny Neji carved a solid place for himslef in the Nigerian music industry with this song celebrating everlasting love.

5. Wande Coal – Ololufe (2009)

Although this song was released as a single, Ololufe did make it a  bonus track on his debut album, Mushin2Mohits, Ololufe, which means  ‘My Lover’, in Yoruba, is a song that captures the heart whenever it comes on. The lyrics to the song; ”You said this picture, It’s about our future, I want you to be my wife, my bride, and I want you to have my child, my life” sure is an evergreen one.

6. Styl Plus – Olufunmi (2006)

The early and mid 2000’S saw many youths swooning over theStyl Plus crew which had the trio Tunde, Zeal and Shiffi. Many saw the group as Nigeria’s Backstreet Boys.

 Nigerians had and still have a great time listening to Olufunmi. Great song.

7. Timi Dakolo – Iyawo Mi (2014)

Another song which made every wedding ceremony complete. This song can best be described as an aexcellently written love letter and yes, Timi did a great job singing his heart out in it.

The song was produced by ace producer Cobhams and saw Timi’s wife Busola featured in the video of the song.

8. Plantashun Boiz – Knock Me Off (2000)

Plantashun Boiz’s  debut album, Body and Soul had the song Knock Me Off filled with so much soul and pure love. Still a whole vibe till date.

9. P Square – No One Like You (2007)

Their third studio album Game Over, had the song No One Like You. The song which has a marriage theme till date gets anyone’s head boobing and faces breaking out in smiles.

10. Seyi Sodimu – Love Me Jeje (1997)

Released in the late 90’s, the song Love Me Jeje in the late 90s, quickly became the song for many.
