Many of the celebrities we have come to love and adore today actually started their lives in Ajegunle, a place many consider to be one of Nigeria’s worse slum located in Lagos state.
Here are 10 celebrities that once lived there
1.Daddy Showkey
Born John Asiemo, this veteran act represents Ajegunle well as he never fails to talk about growing up there. Showkey is also known to use his music to bring much-needed attention to the community.
O ways he has given back to Ajegunle, the veteran singer in an interview with Punch said;
I have given almost all my life to Ajegunle. If I do things for people, I do not say it in public, because people who did things for me did not publicize it. People you help should sing your praises. When you begin to praise yourself, I see it as bragging.
I have given hope to all the children in Ajegunle and changed the impression of people about the community. So, what do you expect me to do again?
2. Bright Okpocha
Better known by his stage name Basketmouth lived on Ozor Street in Ajegunle then. He began his entertainment career as a musician before dumping it for comedy.
3.Linus Idahosa
Ac Nollywood producer Linus Idahosa, who is married to Nollywood actress; Stephanie (Okereke), is also one of the celebrities who lived in Ajegunle. He, however, did not live there for so long.
4. Kcee
Nigerian artiste Kcee before hitting the limelight after he and Presh won the first Star Quest show, also lived in Ajegunle. Kcee has once revealed that at a point he was evicted from his Ajegunle home with just boxers on.
5. Tarribo West
Former footballer Taribo West at some point in his life also lived in Ajegunle. He, unlike others, hardly speak about this though.
6. Monica Friday
The Nollywood actress revealed in an interview that not only was she born in Ajegunle, she was also bred there. Friday also revealed that while growing up there, she hawked beans.
Yeah I did. I hawked beans which people call ‘Ewa Agonyi’. I also hawk Abodo known as Donkunu.
7. Oritsefemi
Nigerian singer Oritsefemi is another celebrity proud to have lived in Ajegunle. The Double Wahala crooner in an interview once revealed that his apartment in the community was made of woods.
“I remember paying fifteen thousand Naira a year for an apartment in Ajegunle made with wood.”
8. Emmanuel Aunike
Another great footballer who is now retired. The ace former Super Eagles player also lived in Ajegunle.
9. Odion Jude Ighalo
Nigerian footballer Ighalo also lived in this part of the city. Odion began his football career at Prime and Julius Berger before he moved to Norway’s Lyn.
10. Victor Agali
Former Nigerian football star Victor Okechukwu Agali is also one of the few celebrities who lived in Ajegunle before hitting the limelight.
